Kate Fox
Eb Clarinet
Kate works as a metallurgist for Rolls Royce Aero Engines.  She is a member of a number of other musical ensembles locally.  She is a founder member of Blackwood and has enjoyed the challenge of taming the normally shrill Eb clarinet.
Kate Brown
Bb Clarinet - Leader
Kate is Blackwood's Chair, Secretary and one of the founding members. She plays in a number of amateur Orchestras, Bands and Ensembles across the East Midlands, including the award winning Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra.
Jane Clayton
Bb Clarinet
Jane is involved with a variety of local music ensembles including NSWO and Cirrus Clarinet Quartet. After a number of years exploring the stuff that life is made of, she has recently resumed her career in architecture and also does a little clarinet and saxophone teaching.
Amy Harker
Bb Clarinet
Amy is a woodwind teacher, and a regular clarinet and saxophone player in shows and various ensembles.  She has a 1st class honours degree in Music from York St John University.
Claire Revell
Bb Clarinet
Claire started her working life as an instrumental teacher and is now a secondary school music teacher. She has played the clarinet since the age of 9 and was in Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra when a pupil. She also plays bass clarinet, piano and saxophone, and studied music at Huddersfield University. She now plays in ensembles and local orchestras as well as in a soloist role in her spare time.
Ceri-Anne Joseph
Bb Clarinet
Ceri-Anne is a lecturer in Animal Care and (Functional Skills) English.  She has played clarinet in Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra for 14 years, and is now learning the ‘cello.  She enjoys outdoor activities in her spare time.
Phil Canton
Bb Clarinet
Phil is a System Administrator and plays clarinet in NSWO. In his free time, he enjoys playing bass guitar and likes to relax with a glass of real ale in his hand.
Rob Cox
Bb Clarinet
Rob studied Music in Bath specialising in early clarinet performance and history, he holds LRSM level performance qualifications in both Clarinet and Saxophone. He has played with numerous ensembles in the South West including stage shows and operas. Having spent 28 years in senior management roles at Boots the Chemist , Rob now works exclusively as a Clarinet & Saxophone teacher. He is a long serving member of NSWO and a previous bass clarinettist of Nottinghamshire Police Band.
Ray Hicks
Bb Clarinet
Ray works as a Business Development Director in the Energy and Utilities Industry and also plays the clarinet in NSWO. In his spare time he enjoys getting outside on his mountain bike or hiking in the countryside but is also trying to master the game of golf!
Matt Garton
Bb Clarinet
Matt is about to embark on the PGCE post 14 specialising in SEN. He has also been affiliated with NSW for 12 years and has been part of other local orchestras aswell
Angela Dickason
Bb Clarinet
Angela was an electron microscopist before having children, after which she retrained to become a Teaching Assistant which she has been doing ever since! She has played with the Nottinghamshire Police Band for several years and has played ‘in the pit’ for local shows.
Ros Farrow
Alto Clarinet
Ros is a General Practitioner.  In 1990 she was handed an alto clarinet in an audition for the Nottingam Symphonic Wind Orchestra, and says she has been attempting to master it ever since!!
Steve Milner
Alto Clarinet
Steve is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who also plays clarinet in various amateur orchestras.  His remaining spare time is devoted mostly to over-ambitious house restoration projects and being a foodie, although not usually together.
Phil Smith
Bass Clarinet
Phil is a computer programmer who spends much of his spare time playing in various orchestras and ensembles.  He enjoys hill walking, and is a keen advocate of the beer and curry diet.
Joe Curtis
Conta-Alto Clarinet
After a brief period with the City of Belfast Orchestra (now the Ulster Orchestra) Joe decided that the life of a professional musician was not for him. Embarking on a career in industry in a variety of roles, mostly computer related, he ended up running his own printing business. A founder member of Blackwood, he plays many sizes of clarinet and saxophone in ensembles in the East and West Midlands.
Dave Oldershaw
Contrabass Clarinet
Originally from an engineering background, Dave is the C.E.O of Windblowers Music Shop. A founder member of both Blackwood and the Nottingham Symphonic Winds, Dave says “Playing the awesome Contra is not something any sane person would do - it’s like Harry Potter’s magic wand - you don’t choose it, it chooses you!” His wife Margaret Oldershaw M.B.E is treasurer of Blackwood.
